On the road to Reno, NV!!
![]()
so I’m going to try to catch everyone up on the goings-on of Josh!
I’m currently on US 93 about to head over the hoover dam into Las Vegas!
We’re driving a rental truck, and about 20 miles back we saw a single sign that mentioned something about rental trucks need to take detour. We voted against the detour (since I looked up a website that said rental trucks that allow the police to inspect them can get through). We’re hoping the website was up to date ![]()
I’m going to try to get pictures of the Hoover dam and post them…
This is beautiful country, you can see for miles, and we’re surrounded by mountains. It reminds me of growing up and vacationing in new mexico…but better!
The trip begins…
Well, we began our trip from Tennessee to Reno. We’re leaving at 5AM to get there tonight to see my sister and brother-in-law. We made it out by 7. I woke up at 2AM to pack my computer stuff and didn’t realize how much I’d underestimated the amount of computer equipment I owned.
I did end up leaving Melissa with a nice TV, dvd player and a set of Cutco knives…hopefully she takes good care of the knives. I snuck off with the Cooper book (2007) — but have placed an order to have her a new copy delivered soon.
The trip to Texas was pretty uneventful, we drove and drove, and pulled in around 9PM.
Shana and Karl’s kids Jacob and Abigail are my niece and nephew (in case you weren’t up on how families are structured ![]()
I’ve only seen them a handful of times, but Jacob’s become quite friendly — Abigail’s still not sure of me, and was a bit hesitant when hugging
I don’t blame her, I don’t think I’d want to hug me.
The Roses (my sister and brother-in-law) have an amazing house! As you walk up to the front, you see a towering arched entryway. I got the grand tour of the house, and am very impressed by the decor (Shana loves to do that) as well as the structure! They’ve got some really cool rooms for the kids and I think Shana mentioned doing something even cooler. Shana’s prized possession is a red phone booth in her ‘dance floor’. They’re going to put a phone into it — that’ll be really cool!
They were flying to the Rose family reunion in Lake Tahoe (isn’t that ironic?) and left around 8:30 — so that got us on the road at a good time.
We drove on into Girlstown that evening, and enjoyed not being in a truck.
ABA 2007 Day 2…
Saturday morning, I woke up at around 3:30 AM — probably because it is 6:30 Eastern…I made myself go back to sleep as I knew I’d be tired if I didn’t. I officially woke up at 5:00 AM and went to the 24 hour gym in the hotel. It cost $5 a day!! But, we bought a 5 day pass for $15. I’ll be sure to get my workouts each day now.
At 5:45, we finished in the gym and got ready for the day. This morning we have an affiliate chapter meeting from 9-11, I’m introducing myself to Joe and Michael at 11, and then the SABA awards are at 11:30. I’m going to provide an overview of the different events so that if you’re unable to attend ABA — you may benefit from some of the cool things here!
The First Day of ABA
After all the travel, we arrived, checked in, and began exploring!
We ate at a barbecue place at which Top Gun’s sleazey bar scene was filmed…its right across the street from the hotel. It was a huge amount of food, and pretty tasty. We walked around a little bit, and then came back to the hotel.
We saw Matt and Marilin, and caught up with Marilin and talked about their upcoming move! (They’re going through some of the same things as I — having to sell a house before moving, and hoping that their house sells quickly)
After this, we went to get our registration. Since I had pre-registered, the line this year was non-existent. That rocked, and my name badge reads: Josh Pritchard, Behaviorist!
I know…kinda geeky, but I like it!
I saw several of the UNR students, they were very friendly, waved at me, and it reminded me how excited I am to get to UNR! We socialized al ittle more, and meandered until we were in the
Well, by this time, Melissa and I were starting to peter out…so we ran upstairs and took a nap. Jose called and woke us up…a pleasant alarm!!
We got dolled up and went downstairs to eat (always a treat with Jose…he finds some of the BEST places to eat). We went to Royal India. Definitely one of the best in San Diego…gets five thumbs up from us!
Jose, Melissa, and I were walking out trying to determine how to get to the restaraunt. That’s when we saw three rickshaws .
That looked like a GREAT idea, I thought, so I pointed them out, and we all three climbed on the rickshaw and away we went!
We arrived, and ate a dinner fit for kings — I had a Lamb Rogan Josh (isn’t it cool that the name is the same as mine?) — it was mild (per request) — so very good for me. Jose had an ‘Indian Hot Mild’ dish — and I saw beads of sweat at his temple — some sort of mild self-injury? (heat index is as follows: mild…moderate…hot…Indian Hot mild…Indian Hot Hot)
Anyways — it was awesome, we had a taxi ride home, and then began walking through the lobby looking for nefarious characters to chat with…and who did we find? Ennio Cipani!!
He’s a writer that lives in California and has some very ingenius ideas about some areas of Behavior Analysis.
After catching up with him for a while, Melissa saw Karen Wagner and we had a great discussion about her dissertation…we finally ended up heading to bed to get ready for the next day.
San Diego, Here we come! Post 2…
…ok, so I left you guys as I was flying to Denver…this is Melissa and I on the plane as we begin descent into Denver.
So…we arrive at Denver on time (7:50 AM) — our connecting flight leaves at 8:20 — boarding starts at 7:45 AM….
Do you see a pattern? We did! This time, however, we did not have to deal with security.
So — we go running through the gates to catch our flight.
We arrive and the plane is 5 minutes delayed, so we’re fine…it gave me a chance to plug my phone in and get a little juice in it (and check my e-mail and such).
Ok — this is a picture heavy post
Anyways — we boarded the plane, (I almost inserted a picture here of Melissa handing her boarding pass to get on — but thought that might be a little much.).
The plane flight was nice — I took some pictures of mountains and the sky as we took off, and then Melissa got a hold of my camera as I slept:
She’s so funny…
Anyways, we arrive in San Diego, and all bags come through (even the big box was there waiting) it was great!! We got to the hotel and began the 2007 ABA Convention!
